FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A DIETITIAN AND A NUTRITIONIST?

Dietitians must complete an accredited dietetics program and internship, then pass a national board exam to earn the credentials RD (Registered Dietitian) or RDN (Registered Dietitian Nutritionist). They are also required to participate in continuing education opportunities each year, which helps them stay up-to-date on nutrition research. The term "nutritionist" without RD credentials, on the other hand, can be used freely by anyone regardless of his or her educational background.
